The Core Problem: A Climate Justice Gap
Climate change disproportionately harms the most vulnerable, yet their voices are often excluded from policy-making. The CJPAA program addresses the systemic inequities that prevent effective, grassroots-led climate action.
Marginalized Voices
Communities on the front lines have limited capacity and platforms to influence national and international climate policies.
Lack of Legal Recourse
Insufficient mechanisms exist to address climate-induced loss, displacement, and human rights violations, with low awareness of rights.
Barriers to Climate Finance
Grassroots organizations face significant hurdles in accessing climate funds due to complex procedures and lack of technical expertise.
Limited Youth Participation
Passionate youth lack formal pathways and mentorship to meaningfully engage in climate governance and policy advocacy.
Undocumented Local Impacts
The lived experiences of climate change are not systematically documented or translated into compelling narratives for policy change.
Top-Down Policymaking
Decisions are often made without adequate community consultation, leading to ineffective and inequitable outcomes.
Program Components: An Accelerator for Justice
The CJPAA program is built on five interconnected components designed to create a virtuous cycle of empowerment, advocacy, and policy change. Explore the tabs to see how these components work together.
1. Community-Led Climate Impact Documentation & Storytelling
We empower communities to become the authors of their own stories, transforming lived experiences into powerful evidence for advocacy.
- Train community members in participatory video, photography, and ethical storytelling.
- Develop compelling narratives (films, photo essays) for advocacy and public awareness.
- Establish a digital archive and GIS map to visualize local vulnerabilities.
- Connect community storytellers with media to amplify their voices.
2. Climate Justice Legal Aid & Awareness
This component ensures that vulnerable communities understand their rights and have access to legal support for climate-induced injustices.
- Establish mobile and virtual legal aid clinics in vulnerable coastal districts.
- Conduct workshops on rights related to land tenure, displacement, and compensation.
- Research and advocate for closing legal gaps in climate justice frameworks.
- Train local legal professionals on climate change law and human rights.
3. Climate Finance Access & Capacity Building
We demystify climate finance and build the capacity of local actors to access the resources needed for their own adaptation solutions.
- Deliver specialized training on accessing national and international climate funds.
- Provide hands-on mentorship for developing fundable adaptation proposals.
- Organize matchmaking events to connect community projects with funders.
- Support community-led mechanisms for transparent fund management.
4. Youth Climate Policy Fellows Program
We are cultivating the next generation of climate policy leaders who can effectively advocate for equitable, rights-based climate action on national and global stages.
- Select and provide intensive mentorship to young professionals and activists.
- Support fellows in conducting policy research and developing advocacy materials.
- Facilitate fellow participation in national and international policy forums (e.g., UNFCCC COPs).
- Empower fellows to design and lead their own youth-focused advocacy campaigns.
5. Inter-Agency Collaboration & Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue Platforms
This component creates the spaces necessary for genuine collaboration, ensuring community voices are heard and integrated into policy development.
- Convene regular dialogues between communities, government, NGOs, and researchers.
- Facilitate workshops for co-creating policy recommendations and action plans.
- Organize cross-learning visits to share best practices in community-led advocacy.
- Build strategic partnerships with human rights and legal organizations for systemic change.
